Barn & Field Service - 16th May 2010

Kevin Moore, Scripture Union Evangelist, visits Wattisfield

Our thanks to Ann Topham for hosting the United Benefice Barn & Field Service at Grundle Farm Barn, on 16th May 2010.

A team of cheerful and enthusiastic helpers from both St Margaret's and the URC Chapel met an hour before the service and turned the barn into a 'church' with the aid of a keyboard player (thanks to Richard Telford) garden chairs and wildflower decorations (thanks to Ann Telford)  for a Barn & Field Service led by Revd John Fulton.  The speaker, Kevin Moore, an evangelist from Scripture Union, used a PowerPoint Presentation to illustrate his preaching of the gospel.  Many of the slides showed Kevin's own artistic interpretation of  gospel scenes and biblical characters.  Junior Church, 'Footsteps' joined the congregation for the whole service and sat quietly at the front listening and watching the  presentation intently.  We hope that Kevin will join us to speak at a future United Service with the URC.

While the congregation took at a walk around the fields to pray for blessings on rural communities, the barn was transformed into a cafe.  Everyone enjoyed either bacon rolls or vegetarian chilli followed by homemade cakes and coffee.
Thank you to all our helpers, supporters and encouragers.
Background on Kevin Moore from Scripture Union
Kevin has spent over twenty years using his artistic skills to evangelise in schools, youth groups and churches.
In addition to evangelism, along with his wife Val and team, Kevin is involved in King Street Toddlers and also runs a chess club in Thetford.  Last year he was busy setting up Messy Church in North Suffolk and in Essex.  He also supports ongoing youth groups at Elmswell.  Every year Kevin and his family and team lead a Scripture Union Beach Mission at Northrepps & Overstrand on the North Norfolk Coast.  During the summer he will also be organising another Checkmate Residential Holiday where 10 team and 12 youngsters enjoy their passion for Chess but also learn about the gospel.  Kevin has recently visited our Parish to give us advice on running 'Footsteps' and to support us in prayer.  We very much enjoyed his company at our first 'Footsteps' Christingle in January and are looking forward to his talk on Sunday.
